Volunteer: Cleanup at Ellis Lake Wetlands, West ChesterOur goal is to cleanup along the entire bike trail from st Rt 747 in West Chester, through Ellis Lake Wetlands, to the end point of the trail at the far side of Gilmore Metropark. Even with surrounding development, Ellis Lake Wetland has become an important birding area. However, due to storm-water runoff and recreational use of the bike trail, a lot of trash has been collecting in this area. We will have grabbers, bags, and gloves available for volunteers to use while they help to clean this habitat for the wildlife. Age range: Suitable for all ages. Ages 14 and under must have an adult with them. Waiver: If you are under the age of 18, please have a parent or guardian print and sign the waiver found at www.butlerswcd.org/volunteer Weather: We will be outdoors rain or shine, we only cancel for thunderstorms. On it's journey, it can pick up and transport pollutants such as trash into our streams. During this project, you can label the drains in your neighborhood with "No Polluting:Drains to Creek" decals. Great for individuals, families, and groups. No experience necessary.Use a wire brush and rag to clean top of drain. Place glue on back of label and stick to drain. Mark label location on a map. Time commitment is up to you, you can label as many or as few drains as you like. When: Anytime the roads are dry and the temperatures are between 40 and 80 oF Materials: All materials provided. They will need to be picked up from Butler SWCD, in Hamilton. Call to make an appointment.
