Mission Possible

Cornerstone Church is deeply invested in marginalized individuals living in poverty. We seek to build long-term relationships with folks and to provide programming that leads to true empowerment.   Our primary local ministry is Mission Possible, where we serve with the families of two mobile home communities to impact their communities.  The Mission Possible team includes residents from the mobile home parks, school success liaisons from both Monroe and Lakota, 7 churches, and Monroe Local Schools.   

We have 3 activities where community volunteers are helpful:  

Mission Possible Summer Program (each June and July)

English Classes (ESL) - every Tuesday year around at 7pm

Whiz Kids - every Tuesday  Oct through April 3:15-4:45pm.

Mission Possible's primary program is our annual Summer Program.   Children from both mobile home parks are transported by school bus twice a week in June and July to our partner church in Monroe for block programming in literacy, Bible, healthy living and fun.  Teens have their own curriculum in Bible, life skills, emotional/relational health and service projects.   We usually have 130 school age kids from Kindergarten through high school seniors.  Volunteers are recruited in April and May and can serve either as a station leader (curriculum provided) or as a group guide for specific age group.   

Additionally, year around we offer English classes to Spanish speakers in Countryside Village Mobile Home Park's community room on Tuesdays at 7pm.   If you speak some Spanish, it's helpful to have volunteers sit at the tables with students and help them practice.

During the school year, we have a Whiz Kids site at Cherokee Elementary to promote improved reading in at-risk kids.  Volunteers read with the same child each week all school year providing valuable mentoring and encouragement.   Training is provided.
