The Edyth and Carl Lindner Choice Food Pantry reveals faith in action – bringing together people from very different backgrounds. The Pantry provides families and individuals free, monthly access to food, where the families are able to choose what they take home, within guidelines based on household size. Working in the Choice Pantry, you will have the opportunity to develop relationships with the clients and volunteers alike; work with food donations; oversee an urban garden to provide fresh, local produce for the Pantry; and assist with logistics for the entire organization. The versatility in the job makes each day a little different and fosters a wide array of managerial, professional and personal skills.This position is part of the Vincentian Volunteers of Cincinnati (VVC) program, a faith-based, year-long, residential service program, providing young professionals in their twenties an opportunity to grow in faith, friendship and service by giving deeply of themselves to their neighbors in need. VVC members serve full-time in a unique work placement with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. They live together in a house provided by the program, in the West End neighborhood of Cincinnati, blocks from SVDP’s Outreach Center. The program is an 11-month commitment, running late August through late July and provides members with excellent professional experience in a supportive context. One hundred percent of VVC members finish the program with a meaningful next-step in their career.Young adults in their 20s. Able to commit to the full 11 months of the program. Able to live together in the VVC residence. Interest in living simply, exploring questions of faith.Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience. Managerial experience of any kind coupled with strong organizational skills will be helpful in carrying out the responsibilities of this position. A demonstrated ability to relate to people of different cultural and economic backgrounds is important. The ability to relate effectively and compassionately to people in the process of meeting their basic needs is essential. Position Responsibilities:1. Support and supervise approximately 25-30 volunteers during “open” Pantry hours, as well as working with group volunteers in the Pantry.2. Assist with registration of pantry clients via the database.3. In consultation with the Pantry Manager, monitor inventory and order food as needed to ensure adequate supplies are available during operating hours.4. Fill supportive role in planning and organizing special holiday food distribution activities.5. Pick-up, and plan for storage and movement of, both donated and purchased pantry provisions.6. Serve as a contact with FreeStore FoodBank, coordinating and maximizing SVDP efforts to access food and other commodities at the least possible cost. This responsibility also includes ensuring compliance with FSFB/USDA regulations, coordinating SVDP systems with theirs.
