St. Vincent de Paul’s Charitable Pharmacy is a ‘YES’ to the many ‘NOs’ that people hear on a regular basis when trying to apply for assistance they so desperately need. As the only free Pharmacy in southwest Ohio, we provide one-on-one individual support and assistance to each neighbor in need of medication assistance. The VVC Patient Advocate provides direct service support to patients seeking services, qualifying them for services and assessing other basic needs.This position is part of the Vincentian Volunteers of Cincinnati (VVC) program, a faith-based, year-long, residential service program, providing young professionals in their twenties an opportunity to grow in faith, friendship and service by giving deeply of themselves to their neighbors in need. VVC members serve full-time in a unique work placement with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. They live together in a house provided by the program, in the West End neighborhood of Cincinnati, blocks from SVDP’s Outreach Center. The program is an 11-month commitment, running late August through late July and provides members with excellent professional experience in a supportive context. One hundred percent of VVC members finish the program with a meaningful next-step in their career.compassion; commitment to mission; interest in faith, service and justice; open-mindedness.Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience preferred. Basic computer literacy skills; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; an ability to communicate well orally and in writing; and the ability to effectively relate to people of different cultural and economic backgrounds are necessary. A willingness and ability to be part of a cooperative team effort is also necessary. Medical experience and valid driver’s license preferred, but not required.Position Responsibilities:Provide individual support and assistance to each Charitable Pharmacy patient, depending on his/her needs.Interview and assess the eligibility and service needs of individuals and families to receive assistance through the Bank Street Charitable Pharmacy.Support individuals in enrolling in Patient Assistance Programs for ongoing assistance with medications not available at the Charitable Pharmacy.Develop a long-term plan for patient assistance and pharmaceutical needs, and assist with client follow-up to ensure compliance with patient long term care plan.Refer patients to primary care physicians and medical specialists, as needed, and assess client files to determine additional support needs for which clients are eligible.Assist in data entry and documentation of patient orders.Participate in quarterly outreach events to raise awareness regarding the Charitable Pharmacy program and other service offerings.
