Build a sense of community in the City and show hope and compassion to our neighbors in need. The Social Services team works directly with those we serve, helping them overcome barriers to stability, providing personal assistance with food, clothing, rent, utilities, furniture, and transportation. You will work on a caring, committed and supportive team, providing help to those seeking assistance, through home visits and one-on-one in-office meetings. You will also be responsible for overseeing one of our client support programs which provide transportation or furniture assistance; facilitating financial literacy trainings; or working with programs designed to build and enhance community.This position is part of the Vincentian Volunteers of Cincinnati (VVC) program, a faith-based, year-long, residential service program, providing young professionals in their twenties an opportunity to grow in faith, friendship and service by giving deeply of themselves to their neighbors in need. VVC members serve full-time in a unique work placement with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. They live together in a house provided by the program, in the West End neighborhood of Cincinnati, blocks from SVDP’s Outreach Center. The program is an 11-month commitment, running late August through late July and provides members with excellent professional experience in a supportive context. One hundred percent of VVC members finish the program with a meaningful next-step in their career.Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. A college degree is preferred, although life experience and motivation to serve will also be assessed to determine preparation for the job. Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office are required. Some driving may be necessary, so a valid driver’s license, insurance and access to a car are ideal. A strong ability to build interpersonal working relationships with people from a variety of different backgrounds, especially those from low income communities, is essential. Reliable organizational skills with proven ability to follow through are important. A willingness and ability to be part of a cooperative team effort and the ability to express oneself verbally and in writing are also necessary. Position Responsibilities:1. Respond to service requests received via SVDP Web site and by phone, with other Social Services staff.2. Hold interviews and review agency records and documentation of current need/financial situation to confirm eligibility of applicants for assistance.3. Interview clients and complete applications and recommendations for assistance to outside funding groups.4. As appropriate, assess needs of clients presenting critical situations at any time during business hours.5. Link clients of Saint Vincent de Paul Society with community resources able to provide assistance as indicated by their particular need.6. Participate as member of two-person team in making weekly home visits to people requesting furniture assistance.7. Enter required data related to client interviews in client database; collect and file required paper documentation in case files.8. Manage a special program in the Social Services department, including but not limited to the Mattress Fund, Fan & Air Conditioner program, and Rent & Utilities Assistance program.
